Economic Workshop Offers Skills, Information and Resources for Businesses – September 15
What do websites, QuickBooks, marketing, employee management, business plans, local economies and wine tasting have in common? They are all going to be available on one day and in one place at the upcoming Economic Workshop on September 15. At this Workshop business owners and entrepreneurs will have an opportunity to come together to learn skills and strategies for taking their businesses to the next level.
Senator Kastama, Chair of the Senate Economic and Trade Committee, will be the opening speaker followed by keynoter Doug Wills. As a professor of Economics at University of Washington, Tacoma, Wills is an advocate of the power of small business to positively impact our local economy. Throughout the day, participants can participate in skill building workshops including: •Practical Marketing Tips for Growing your Small Business. •Building new skills when you can’t leave your store. •QuickBooks I (intro) & II (manage your finances). •Using public resources for hiring, tax advice, business planning and business retention. •Dealing with employees – handbooks, performance reviews and employment law updates.
At a lunchtime panel discussion, City Managers from Puyallup and Sumner along with their major developers, Benaroya and Cascadia respectively, will discuss the future of this region’s economy and the skills and businesses needed to move forward. In the afternoon, the six businesses that attended a Destination Retail Boot Camp in Colorado in May will be sharing lessons learned and disclosing which strategies they have used to increase their business in the weeks since the Boot Camp.
The day culminates with a networking and wine tasting event that will feature all the local organizations that provide free resources to business owners such as tax advice, business planning services, recruiting and lending opportunities.
